i recently went through and read all my old blog posts way back from 2008. whew! what a doozy.
this time last year, i was thinking about my mysterious neighbors and complaining about thin walls. the year before that, i was taking quizzes about my font identity and was eating a lot of sweet potatoes. before that…things get weird.
now i am in texas. today i did an exercise video on youtube called “boxer babe,” painted my nails beige, and listened to garth brooks.

in conclusion: what?

1. my friend ann lowe is an interior designer, stylist, and baker of the world’s best chocolate chip cookies. somehow i have also tricked her into doing all the photography for the synonym “full time job” web series. she is the real deal, people. i helped her create a website and logo for her work, which you can see on her new site, here!

2. i did interviews with 2 friends’ projects: laura’s RAD LADY and claire’s ART BOOK STAND. for the first, laura came over and we drank a ton of wine. then, claire sent me a really thoughtful questionnaire and i sent her a picture of a receipt. i’m just living day to day over here.

there’s this great feature on the rookie magazine site called “why can’t i be you?” where she interviews different inspirational women about how they got to be who they are, and this one with wendy yao, owner of la’s incredible book shop ooga booga, is particularly full of gems.

I like this question:
How do you describe the talent you have for making things happen and putting things together in new ways?

“I don’t think it’s anything that special—it’s just having that feeling that you can do it, and not feeling like there’s that much in your way. I often didn’t have a lot of resources to work with, but somehow I found creative ways to make what I wanted work out. That’s been a persistent feeling for me—that something can be done even if it seems like you don’t have the means to do it.”

one of the best / worst / necessary parts about learning about how the internet works is constantly changing my own website. it has been an ideal place to experiment with design and ideas, and on a whim yesterday i decided, amid everything else i should be doing, to just redo my whole site.
i also switched the whole thing over to wordpress, which needed to be done like a year ago.
i’m still working out some kinks and needing to upload more stuff, but at least it’s up! i’m tired.

I have driven across this country and seen that it is all just one Howard Johnson motel.
